Full description
I built SkillLab because the ear trainers I tried gave me a score and a streak, which is no use at a mixing desk. I wanted a number with a unit: the smallest difference I can still hear, in dB or LU. You pick a drill. Each trains one thing engineers listen for, such as which band is boosted, which filter is on, or which compressor grabs faster. Each item plays two clips, A and B, in the same loop, and the button only switches which one you hear. The clips are loudness-matched to BS.1770-4, so the only difference left is the thing being trained. A 2-down-1-up staircase sets the difficulty: harder after two right answers, easier after one wrong, until it finds your limit. After twelve items you see your threshold and the level it falls in, from Starting out to Exceptional. That number is what you can pick out on this phone with these headphones, not a hearing test. NoiseLab can hand over your noise floor. SkillLab shows it as context next to your result, never as a correction. All audio is generated on the phone. I kept the training itself free: every drill and every step of every ladder, your last three sessions per skill (older ones are kept, shown with Pro) and your first PDF report. I sell Pro as a one-time purchase. It adds the whole history with the trend curve behind it, a WAV of your own music as a practice source under every drill (the four loudest seconds, matched the same way), and further PDF reports. SkillLab is one of seven small labs by AudioLab.tools, each made to do one job well: RoomLab (room acoustics, RT60), NoiseLab (sound level meter), MicLab (mic check), LevelLab (LUFS loudness meter), SignalLab (tone generator), TuneLab (chromatic tuner) and SkillLab (ear training). They share one look, and some hand their results to each other. No microphone permission, it only plays sound. No ads. No account. Your audio never leaves your phone. What's new

Each drill now remembers the practice source you chose, so pinning pink noise on one drill no longer carries over to the next. Progress shows every session with its source, and the PDF report lists a line per drill and source.
