Full description
I built MicLab because I kept finding out too late that a take was bad. So I made a twelve-second check you run before the real one. You read a short passage aloud, MicLab records it through the raw microphone without Android's voice processing, and gives you one score from five checks: level and distance, background noise, clipping, sibilance and room bleed. The pause between the lines is the room check, so stay quiet there. Each check gets a readout and plain advice on what to change. A take can come out inconclusive; that is the app declining to guess, not a bad score. If you recorded in your own setup, save a WAV and pick it here; it goes through the same five checks. The Signal chain screen shows what the phone inserts between mic and app and which input is under test: built-in, wired headset, USB interface or Bluetooth. MicLab is not a live monitor. Android adds 150 ms or more of delay and no app can remove that, so it measures a take and plays it back instead. Your recording spot can travel too: one tap sends the reverb, noise floor and signal-to-noise of the place where the mic stood to RoomLab, on your phone with nothing uploaded, to sit next to the room's acoustics. Free is the whole measurement: the score, all five readouts, playback, a third-octave spectrum, a history with the score difference between any two saved takes, and your first shareable PDF report. Pro is a one-time purchase, for when the take has to hold up for someone else. It adds unlimited reports with your own logo, side-by-side compares per check, and history export as CSV or JSON. It also adds an auto-EQ you can hear on your own take and share as a preset for Wavelet or Equalizer APO. MicLab is one of seven small labs by AudioLab.tools, each made to do one job well: RoomLab (room acoustics, RT60), NoiseLab (sound level meter), MicLab (mic check), LevelLab (LUFS loudness meter), SignalLab (tone generator), TuneLab (chromatic tuner) and SkillLab (ear training). They share one look, and some hand their results to each other. No ads. No account. Your audio never leaves your phone. Anonymous usage stats are off by default.
