Earvane: Catch Real Sounds

Maybe this is the last time you hear it. The church bell on the corner. A rooster at first light. An owl in the dark, a frog in the ditch, a siren fading down the street. You have heard them a thousand times, and one day you hear one of them for the last time. Nobody tells you which time that is. Earvane turns every walk into a hunt for the sounds around you, and gives you a way to keep them. Hear something? Press CATCH. The field lab in your pocket has been holding on to the last twenty seconds, so you catch the moment that just passed, not the one you were too late for. Your phone recognises the sound and files it in your field guide, stamped with the time of day and how clean your take was. The recording itself stays yours: play it back, name it, keep it. Made for the hunt: • The radar points you to where sounds are likely: churches, dog parks, fire stations, police stations, hospitals and sirens. Pick your own source and turn the range from around the corner to 25 km. It uses OpenStreetMap points for the Netherlands that ship inside the app. • Packs to hunt from: the daily set, Home, City and Nature. Turn the knob on the Vane-1 to switch. More packs are on the way. • A daily set of targets, plus a combo for when you hear two at once. • Auto catch listens along for up to half an hour while your phone is in your pocket, with a notification on screen the whole time. It only keeps what it actually recognises, and speech is never a target. • Big buttons and readable contrast, for outside, in the dark, with gloves on. What is in the case: • The field lab: the hunt, your targets and a live list of what it hears right now. • The field guide: a page per sound, where and when to hear it, and your best catch. • The logbook: every recording you kept, to name, play back or throw away. • Stickers for your case: each with its own place on the lid, and each one an achievement in Google Play Games. Your recordings stay yours. They are made on your phone and never leave by themselves, and there is no account to create. The GPS location the radar uses never leaves the device. Earvane is free: an ad only plays when you choose one, for example to swap a target. Back up your catches to a folder you choose, or wipe everything in the service hatch. Out in the field: • Earvane sends you outside. Watch where you are going. • Never catch on a road or a railway, and stay off private property. • Do not use the app while driving or cycling. • Mind the people around you: a recording can hold their voice, and that is not yours to share.
