Full description
Quartz Hall Core is a small, quiet strategy game for one player against a thinking opponent. Five pale pieces face five dark ones across a five by five hall, and a single charcoal core rests on the middle square. The core belongs to nobody. Both sides move it. THE TURN THAT WORKS AGAINST YOU Every turn has two parts, in this order. First you slide the shared core. Only then do you slide one of your own pieces. That single rule is the whole game: you cannot advance your own plan until you have moved the one piece that can also lose you the match. Whoever opens skips the core move on the very first turn, and never again. EVERYTHING SLIDES ALL THE WAY Pieces travel in any of the eight directions and keep going until the edge of the board or another piece stops them. They land on the last empty square and can never choose to stop early. A slide is a commitment, not a step, so a piece placed to block a line today is a piece that cannot easily come back tomorrow. THREE WAYS A MATCH ENDS The core comes to rest on your own home row and you win, no matter who slid it there. Or the side to move has no legal core slide at all and loses on the spot. Or a player moves the core, still owes a piece move, and finds every piece frozen. Blocking the dangerous slide lines is the heart of the game. AN OPPONENT AT THREE STRENGTHS Drifting plays a random legal turn while you learn the rhythm. Measured looks one full turn ahead. Exacting searches three turns deep, weighs the core against both home rows, counts the slides that would let you win next turn, and sets traps around them. You can also choose who opens, since the opening side skips a core move and that matters. A BOARD THAT EXPLAINS ITSELF On your core step every landing square is ringed, so you never have to guess where a slide ends. Teaching warnings, which you can switch off, mark any core slide that would hand your rival an immediate win. Restart turn puts the board back to the start of the turn if you change your mind after the core has moved. WHAT THE HALL KEEPS Matches played, won and lost, your win rate, average match length, your fastest win, and how your wins arrived: by the core reaching your home row, or by sealing your rival in. Wins are tracked separately at each opponent strength, and eight awards hang on the wall as you collect them. Everything is stored on your device and survives restarts. QUIET BY DESIGN Completely offline. No internet permission, no accounts, no adverts, no tracking, no in-app purchases and no sound of any kind. Just a lit quartz board, a light haptic tap, and a game that makes you help your opponent every single turn.
