Full description
An offline study aid for the first ten moves of a chess game. Not an engine, not an opponent, not a puzzle set. A folio you can read, play through and be tested on. Most opening apps hand you a list of moves to memorise. This one is built the other way round: every move in the tree carries a plain sentence explaining what it WANTS. Control of a centre square. A developed piece with a job. A pawn break prepared. A structural concession accepted on purpose. Once you can say what a move wants, you stop needing to remember the order. WHAT IS INSIDE EXPLORE - a board with the opening tree beside it. Play a move on the board or tap a line to follow it, and the branches available from the current position appear by name. Step backwards and forwards through any line, flip the board, and read the idea behind each move as you go. OPENINGS - roughly forty named openings and their main variations, grouped by family. The open games, including the Italian, the Spanish, the Scotch, the Petrov and the King's Gambit. The semi-open games, with several branches of the Sicilian alongside the French, the Caro-Kann, the Pirc, the Scandinavian and Alekhine's Defence. The closed and Indian systems, from both Queen's Gambits and the Slav through the Nimzo-Indian, the King's Indian, the Gruenfeld, the Catalan, the London and the Colle. And the flank openings: the English, the Reti, the Bird and Larsen's Opening. Each entry gives the moves, the typical pawn structure drawn as a diagram, and the plans for both sides written in ordinary language rather than notation. DRILL - a position from an opening you choose, and one question: play the correct next move. A wrong answer is never answered with a bare no. It explains the idea behind the right move, so a mistake teaches something. Accuracy and streaks are tracked per opening. TRAPS - the common early traps, each played out move by move with the punishment shown, so you meet them here rather than over a real board. PROGRESS - mastery bars for each opening, best streaks and an accuracy graph. HOW IT IS BUILT The board enforces real chess rules for the lines it shows, including pins and check, castling, en passant and promotion, so an illegal move is never possible. Every piece and every diagram is drawn by the app itself, with no images and no chess font, which is why it takes so little space. HONEST ABOUT ITS LIMITS This is a study aid covering main lines. It carries no engine, gives no evaluation of a position, and does not claim to be a complete repertoire for tournament play. It is meant to make the opening phase make sense. OFFLINE AND QUIET No internet, no accounts, no advertising, no in-app purchases, no analytics and no sound at all. Everything stays on your device, and it works exactly the same with the connection turned off.
