Full description
Tonight's Moon, and the day's Sun, in your pocket and on your home screen. Lunette shows the Moon at its real phase, with the whole sky for the day around it: when it rises and sets, sunrise and sunset, golden hour and the twilights. Any other day is a tap away. THE MOON • A real photograph of the Moon, lit as it is tonight, and turned the right way up for your hemisphere. • The phase, how much of it is lit, and when the next full moon, new moon or quarter comes. • Moonrise and moonset where you are, with the direction on the horizon, and how far away it is tonight. Supermoons are marked. • The next four principal phases, to the minute. THE SUN • Sunrise, sunset and the length of the day, and how it compares with yesterday. • A chart of the day: the Sun's arc over the horizon, coloured by what the sky is doing — night, twilight, blue hour, golden hour, day — with the Moon's path dotted across it. • Golden hour and blue hour, morning and evening, for planning a photograph. Civil, nautical and astronomical twilight too. • A compass with where the Sun and Moon rise and set. • Midnight sun and polar night are handled properly, not shown as errors. ECLIPSES The next solar and lunar eclipses, and whether you can see them from where you are: how much of the Sun is covered and when it is greatest, worked out for your own spot. ANY DAY A calendar of the month's Moon, and any date to plan an evening: the Moon, the rises and sets and golden hour for that day. METEORS AND PLANETS The next meteor shower's peak night and how dark the sky will be, and when Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn are up tonight. ALERTS Choose what you want to hear about: the full moon as it rises, the new moon, golden hour, sunrise, sunset, moonrise, or an eclipse you can see — with a lead time of your choice. WIDGETS Small, medium and large home screen widgets: the Moon, the day's rises and sets, the day chart and the next phases. WORKED OUT ON YOUR DEVICE Every figure is calculated on your phone or tablet from the formulas astronomers publish. No weather service behind it, nothing to download, nothing to go out of date. Rise and set times agree with the US Naval Observatory's almanac to within a minute or two, and eclipses with NASA's. PRIVACY Lunette asks only for your approximate location to work out rise and set times where you are. It keeps it rounded to about a kilometre, on your device, and has no network access, so it could not send it anywhere if it tried. No account, no analytics, no tracking. Prefer not to share your location? Lunette uses your time zone's main city instead, and the Moon's phase needs no location at all. Moon photograph: NASA Scientific Visualization Studio. Requires Android 8.0 or later.
