Full description
DoSay is an offline voice assistant for things your phone can do itself. Say one sentence and it is done: an alarm in your Clock app, the flashlight, a call, a note. Your voice is turned into text on the phone, with no internet and no account. Voice commands and voice control, no cloud. HOW YOU START IT • Hold the side key or use the assistant gesture, after setting DoSay as the phone's digital assistant (where the phone allows it). • Or tap the home-screen widget, the Quick Settings tile, or the microphone in the app. • You can also type a command instead of speaking, or use the accessibility shortcut. Other apps can use DoSay for voice typing. WHAT YOU CAN SAY • Voice alarm and timer: “Set an alarm for 7:30”, “Wake me up at 6 for the gym”, “Skip my 7 am alarm”, “Start the stopwatch”, “Set a timer for 10 minutes”, “When is my next alarm” • “Turn on the flashlight”, “Do not disturb on”, “Put the phone on vibrate”, “Volume to 50 percent”, “Brightness to 40 percent”, “Wi-Fi settings” • “Call mom on speaker”, “Open camera”, “Add dentist to my calendar tomorrow at 3 pm” • “Pause the music”, “Play jazz on Spotify”, “Next song”, “What’s playing” • “Remind me in two hours to call back”, “Take a note buy stamps”, “Add bread to my shopping list”, “Read my shopping list” • “What is 12 times 15”, “Convert 5 miles to kilometers”, “What time is it”, “Battery level”, “Good morning” for a short briefing, “Read my notifications”, “Reply to Anna saying on my way” • Your own shortcuts: one phrase can open an app, run several commands, or send an intent to Tasker and other automation apps. • “Undo” reverses the last action where it can. HONEST ANSWERS DoSay answers in one short sentence, a sound, or silently. It reports an alarm as set only after reading it back from the system. When it cannot confirm something, such as a timer in the Clock app, it says it was sent, not that it is running. CALLS WITHOUT SURPRISES Before calling, DoSay shows the name with a three-second countdown you can cancel. If a name matches several people, it asks and remembers your choice. LANGUAGES Commands and the app work in English, German, Spanish, French, Japanese, Russian, Brazilian Portuguese, Turkish and Arabic. Recognition is downloaded once per language through Google Play (about 35–75 MB). Portuguese voice recognition is in beta and makes more mistakes. Arabic works by typing only for now. WHAT DOSAY DOES NOT DO • No wake word. It never listens in the background; you start it each time. • No web search, weather, news or chat. • It does not read or send SMS. It can reply only through a notification’s own reply button, and only after you tap Send. • It cannot switch Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or mobile data; Android does not allow apps to. It opens the panel for you. • Whether the side key opens DoSay depends on your phone maker; the widget and tile always work. • On the lock screen only harmless commands run (flashlight, timers, alarms, stopwatch, time, battery, music, volume, brightness). Calls, notes, lists, calendar, replies and notifications ask you to unlock. PERMISSIONS Microphone (only while the card is listening), contacts (to find who to call), phone (to place the call; otherwise the dialer opens), notifications (for reminders), alarms and reminders (for on-time reminders), Do Not Disturb access (for silent and DND), modify system settings (for brightness only). Each is asked when first needed. Notification access (to read and reply to notifications) and the assistant role are optional and set in Android settings. PRIVACY DoSay has no internet permission. Audio is never saved and never leaves the phone. Notes, lists and reminders stay on the phone. Command history is off by default. If you choose another speech app as a fallback, that app may use the internet; this is off by default. Privacy policy: https://basilja.github.io/touchoff-privacy/privacy/dosay/ Speech recognition: Vosk models by Alpha Cephei (Apache 2.0). Questions: [email protected]

What's new

• Fixed: "remind me tomorrow at 9" was set for today. • Fixed: commands with a time were not understood when the app language was Arabic. • Fixed: a crash when choosing a contact for a name on a phone without a contacts app. • Results now use your language's decimal separator, and the Undo card stays on screen longer.
