Full description
Glyph Bank is a workshop for inventing a writing system. You draw each letter with your finger, and any phrase you type renders instantly in the hand you just made. WHAT THE APP DOES - Draw every character on a baseline-guided canvas: letters, digits, punctuation, diacritics and ligatures. - Keep strokes as vector data in the order you drew them, and replay any glyph stroke by stroke. - Add contextual variants for letters that change shape at the start, middle or end of a word. - Sort characters by category: vowels, consonants, diacritics, punctuation, digits, ligatures. - Build more than one system, each with its own name. - Set the structure of a system: alphabet, abjad, abugida, syllabary or logography. - Set its direction: left to right, right to left, or top to bottom. - Type a phrase in the compose screen and see it rendered live in your own characters. - Share a rendered phrase as a compact text code that another copy of the app can read back. HOW IT IS USED Start with the sounds or symbols your system needs, draw them one at a time, and test as you go by typing real words. Because the renderer updates live, a letter that looks fine alone but breaks the rhythm of a word shows the problem immediately, while it is still easy to redraw. The structure and direction settings are not cosmetic. Choosing an abjad or a syllabary changes how the system is organised, which is what makes the result behave like a real script rather than a substitution cipher. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO No account, no sign-in, no cloud and no connection. Nothing is uploaded. Your systems and glyphs stay in the app on your device, and the share code is plain text you pass along yourself. WHO IT IS FOR Conlangers and worldbuilders inventing a script for a fictional culture, calligraphers and lettering hobbyists sketching a personal hand, students of writing systems who want to see how abjads and abugidas differ in practice, and anyone who wants a private alphabet to swap notes in.
