Full description
Keeping a recipe page open on the counter has never worked. The ads move, the story before the recipe runs long, and the ingredients sit somewhere below the fold. Wet fingers do not scroll well. Braise starts by pasting that URL, or sharing the page from your browser. It reads the ingredients, the steps, how many the recipe serves, and the prep and cook times, and keeps them. Then you can close the page. Reading happens in four passes: structured data (JSON-LD), then microdata, then RDFa, then a look at the visible markup for whatever is still missing. A later pass never overwrites what an earlier one found. Anything that cannot be read is left empty rather than guessed at. When an import fails, you are told what actually went wrong. Servings go from 1 to 64. Change the number and every quantity follows. The recipe's original yield stays on screen, so you can move back and forth and land where you started. The stored recipe is not rewritten. There is a conversion table of 47 units built in — cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, ounces and pounds in both US and Imperial measure, alongside metric and the Japanese go, shaku and monme. Units from different dimensions refuse to combine. 100 g of flour and 100 ml of milk will not quietly become 200 of anything. The shopping list is grouped into 14 sections in the order you walk a store: produce, meat, seafood, dairy, frozen, pantry, spices, and so on. No doubling back. When two recipes call for the same thing the quantities add up, but the breakdown stays visible — "2 + 1" rather than a bare 3 — and each line says which recipe it came from, so nothing in the cart is a mystery by the time you reach the till. Ticking something off does not delete the line. It gets a strikethrough and moves to the bottom of its section, so you can undo a mistake instead of hunting for a row that vanished. What you already have goes in the pantry. A name is enough; write "eggs 6" and the quantity is picked up too. Pantry items are subtracted from the shopping list automatically, which is how you stop buying a third bottle of soy sauce. With a pantry filled in, "cook now" shows what tonight could be. Without Pro it lists only the recipes where nothing is missing. Search covers more than titles: the summary, the source site, ingredient names and the exact wording the page used, and the text of every step. Searching for a cut of meat finds it whether the recipe spelled it out or abbreviated it. Searching for the vegetable going soft in the drawer works too. Times and temperatures inside the steps are pulled out during import and shown as chips, with °C and °F side by side, so nobody is doing arithmetic in front of an oven. — Free Unlimited recipes and imports. Shopping list, pantry, search, rescaling, timers and temperatures, cook logs and ratings. No ads anywhere. — What Pro adds Two things. "Cook now" will tolerate up to 2 missing ingredients instead of requiring a complete set. And you can switch between metric, US and Imperial display, which is otherwise fixed to whatever your region implies. Weekly, monthly and yearly subscriptions, plus a one-time purchase that never renews. The app is meant to be complete without Pro; buy it only if those two things matter to you.
