Full description
Sound Meter turns your phone into a decibel meter. See how loud any room, street, office, classroom, concert or bedroom is, live, in dBA: the same A-weighted scale that professional sound level meters use. Save measurements, compare places and know when noise is loud enough to harm your hearing. MEASURE NOISE LEVELS IN REAL TIME • A clear dB meter gauge from 0 to 120 dB, coloured quiet, moderate, loud and harmful • Live reading with minimum, maximum and average (Leq) for each session • A live waveform and a timeline of the last two minutes • Plain words for every level: "like a quiet library", "like heavy city traffic" • Big digital LED readout if you prefer numbers MEASURED THE WAY SOUND LEVEL METERS DO • A-weighting (dBA) that follows the IEC 61672 standard, so readings match how people hear • Fast (125 ms) and Slow (1 s) response, like a hardware SPL meter • Uses your phone's unprocessed microphone input where available, without automatic gain • Calibration: match any reference meter with a simple +/- offset • Switch to flat dB (no weighting) at any time PROTECT YOUR HEARING • Warns you when noise passes 85 dB • Shows how long a day that level is safe to hear, following the NIOSH guideline • A loudness scale that compares your room with everyday sounds KEEP A NOISE HISTORY • Save any measurement with a place name: bedroom, office, street, café, concert • Each saved session keeps its average, peaks, duration and a full noise chart • Share results as text, for example to report a noisy neighbour, workplace or venue KEEPS MEASURING IN THE BACKGROUND • Leave the app and the noise meter keeps going, with the live level in a notification • Stop from the notification whenever you like DESIGNED TO BE CALM AND EASY • Night and Day themes, or follow your phone • Four accent colours • Keep the screen on while measuring PRIVATE BY DESIGN • The microphone is used only to measure loudness • Sound is analysed in memory a fraction of a second at a time and immediately discarded: nothing is recorded, saved or uploaded • No account needed; your saved sessions stay on your phone GOOD FOR Checking bedroom noise before sleep, noisy neighbours, open-plan offices, classrooms, restaurants, gyms, traffic, construction, home studios, concerts and events, and testing how quiet a fan, fridge, air conditioner, PC or appliance really is. QUESTIONS PEOPLE ASK How accurate is a phone decibel meter? Phone microphones are not calibrated lab instruments. Sound Meter uses the standard A-weighting curve and the rawest microphone input your phone offers; for exact results, set Calibration once against a reference meter. Use it for everyday checks, not legal or workplace compliance measurements. What is dBA? dBA is decibels with A-weighting, which turns down very low and very high frequencies the way human hearing does. It is the unit used for noise regulations and hearing safety. How loud is too loud? Long exposure above 85 dBA can damage hearing. At 85 dBA about 8 hours a day is considered safe; every 3 dB louder halves that time. Sound Meter shows full-screen ads between screens at most once a minute and never while you are reading a measurement.
