THE KAKEBO METHOD Parsimonia implements the Kakebo approach to personal finance—a practice built on self-reflection and intentional spending: • Plan: Answer four simple questions at the start of each month. What's your income? What do you want to save? What are your fixed costs? What's your behavioral goal? • Track: Log every expense with both amount and emotional context. Was this purchase planned or impulsive? Joyful or stressed? The app divides spending into four pillars—survival (essentials), optional (wants), culture (growth), and extra (indulgences). • Reflect: At month's end, review without judgment. Did you meet your goal? What could you have skipped? What surprised you? This honest reflection is where real change happens. FEATURES THAT MATTER Daily Allowance: See how much you can spend today based on your remaining budget and days left in the month. Makes abstract monthly budgets concrete and daily. 24-Hour Deferral: Optional purchases get a waiting period. Sleep on it. The app reminds you tomorrow whether you still want it. Impulse becomes choice. Emotional Tagging: Log your state of mind alongside each transaction. Over time, patterns emerge: Do you spend more when stressed? When celebrating? When bored? Monthly Phases: The app guides you through distinct stages—planning, active tracking, end-of-month reflection, and archive. Each phase has its own rhythm and purpose. Category Breakdown: See exactly how much you spent in each pillar and how it compares to your plan. Visual, clear, actionable. Past Month Archive: Review completed months and their reflections. Watch your patterns evolve. See proof of progress. YOUR DATA IS YOURS All your financial data lives on your phone by default. Offline-first, private, and entirely under your control. No ads. No data selling. No forced cloud accounts. Optional encrypted backup and sync features are planned for the future, giving you the choice to back up your data securely if you wish. When you uninstall, your local data is gone—only you ever see it unless you enable backup. We use minimal analytics (through Firebase) to understand which features people use most and catch crashes.
