Posting a video to WhatsApp Status compresses it hard, and it happens on your own phone before anything is uploaded. There is no setting that turns it off. StatusHD gets around it by never letting that happen in the first place. YOUR FIRST DAY IS FREE Send your videos free for your first day. No sign-up, no account. HOW IT WORKS 1. Once, the first time: save StatusHD as a contact. The app opens your phone's Contacts with the name and number already filled in; you press Save. Then wait a minute or two so WhatsApp can pick up the new contact. 2. Pick a video. StatusHD lists yours biggest first, with size, duration and a 4K badge, because the big ones are the ones that suffer most. 3. Tap Send to WhatsApp. WhatsApp opens the StatusHD chat with your video attached as a DOCUMENT, not as a video - documents are transferred exactly as they are, instead of being re-compressed on the way. You press send. 4. An HD version comes back into the same chat, as a video. 5. Forward that message to My Status. Forward it rather than saving it and posting it again from your gallery, which would compress it once more. WHAT THE APP ITSELF DOES The app does not compress, re-encode or alter your video. It finds it, copies it, and hands it to WhatsApp, addressed to the StatusHD chat. Sending it is your choice, and you do it in WhatsApp. The app uses the internet for one thing only: checking our current WhatsApp number at statushd.in, so it always sends you to the right chat. That request carries nothing about you or your videos. The app never uploads your video itself - WhatsApp does the sending, under its own permissions, when you tap send. It does not ask for your contacts either: saving StatusHD is done by your phone's own Contacts app. WHERE YOUR VIDEO GOES, PLAINLY Sending it means sending it to the StatusHD service on WhatsApp, which runs on a personal computer in Mangalore, India. Your video is downloaded there, prepared for Status, sent back to you, and then deleted. A copy that could not be delivered is deleted after 48 hours. That computer is a personal machine, and the person who runs it can open any file while it is there. If that is not acceptable to you, do not send your video - the full policy is linked below and says the same thing. NO ACCOUNTS, NO TRACKING No sign-in, no password, no e-mail address, no analytics, no advertising identifier, no advertising network, and nothing sold or shared. The one thing the app notes is which link or ad it was installed from - a short code such as "G1", read once from Google Play - and it adds that code to the names of the videos you send, so we can see which of our ads work. It says nothing about who you are. The app asks only for permission to list the videos on your phone, and works without it through the system picker. Not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to WhatsApp or Meta. Those names are used only to describe what the app prepares video for.
