Square Joint Bends

Square Joint Bends is a quiet partition puzzle built around a single shape: the carpenter square. Every piece on the board is two straight arms meeting at exactly one right angle, one cell wide. Your job is to cut the whole grid into those pieces with nothing left over and nothing overlapping. Three marks tell you how. A circle sits on the corner cell of a piece. Every piece holds exactly one circle and every circle belongs to exactly one piece, so the circles already tell you how many pieces the board is hiding. An arrow sits somewhere along a piece and points down its own arm, straight at that piece corner. Follow the arrow and you know where the bend has to land. A number, wherever one is printed, gives the total cell count of the piece it sits in. An arm is allowed to have length zero, which means a straight run and even a lone single cell are perfectly legal squares. That one allowance is what gives the puzzle its bite: the obvious bend is not always the right one. HOW IT PLAYS Tap a circle to pick up its piece, then drag. The two arm ends follow the row and the column under your finger, so the shape rubber-bands into position. An arm stops dead at the board edge, at another piece, or at another circle, which means an illegal cut simply cannot be drawn. You learn the constraint by feel instead of by error message. Arrows turn green the instant they truly point at their own corner, and a number turns green when the piece it sits in is finally the right size. Undo steps back one move at a time. A hint finishes a single piece for you and clears whatever was in its way. Closing a board with no hints at all is recorded as a clean solve. THREE STOCK SIZES 7 x 7 is a short board, enough bends to teach the hand and short enough to finish in a break. 9 x 9 is the everyday size, where an early mistake travels much further. 11 x 11 is a full sheet with long arms, many corners and very little room to guess. Every board is generated fresh and then checked by a solver before it reaches you, so each one has exactly one answer. Guessing is never required, and never rewarded. Your progress is stored on the device and survives a restart. Nothing you do here leaves the phone. No countdown pushing you, no lives, no currency, no wagering and nothing to buy.
