Full description
Pivot Grove Turns is a quiet strategy board game played on a six by six walnut table built from four turning quadrants. Every turn has two mandatory halves. First you set one marble of your colour into any empty well. Then you must twist one of the four quadrants a quarter turn, left or right. Five marbles in a row wins, but the row is only counted once the wood has stopped moving. That one rule changes everything. A line you spent five turns building can be taken apart by an opponent turning the quadrant underneath it, and a position that looked lost can become five in a row because of a twist you never saw coming. You are never only placing marbles. You are placing them somewhere that survives the turn. WHAT IS INSIDE A full six by six board made of four independently turning three by three quadrants. Eight possible twists on every single turn, so there is always another idea to try. A smooth quarter turn animation so you can follow exactly where every marble lands. Take a placement back before you commit the twist. The winning five lights up in brass the moment it forms. THREE OPPONENTS Gentle plays a loose weighted turn and is a friendly place to learn the shape of the board. Steady weighs every placement and every twist once before it answers. Keen looks a full turn ahead, checks your best reply to each of its own ideas, and understands that the four quadrant pivots never move when the board turns, which makes them the most valuable wells on the table. FIVE TABS Play holds the board itself. Stats keeps your games, your win rate, your average turns and the split between fives you won by placement and fives you only won after the twist. Levels sets the opponent, who lays the first marble and how briskly the wood turns. How is an illustrated explainer of the two part turn and of why a line can vanish. Awards collects ten carved brass rings for the milestones you reach. BUILT TO BE CALM Completely offline. No internet connection is used or needed at any point. No adverts, no analytics, no accounts, no sign ups and no in app purchases. There is no sound at all, so the game is welcome on a quiet train, in a waiting room, or beside someone who is sleeping. Feedback is entirely visual, with an optional gentle buzz of haptics. Everything is drawn rather than photographed, so the whole game is small, sharp on any screen and dark from edge to edge. Your record, your settings and your awards are stored on your own device and survive closing the app. A warm wooden table, two colours of marble, and one small rule that turns an old alignment game into something you have to think about twice.
