Full description
Moon Phase & Stargazing Nights is a moon phase tracker and stargazing planner for Android phones. It shows tonight's moon for your location, a monthly lunar calendar and the nights with the most hours of dark sky without a bright moon in the way, and it tells you whether you can see the moon from where you are. What it does • Tonight's Moon: phase, percentage illuminated, day of the lunar cycle, and moonrise and moonset times for your location. • Phase calendar: a mini moon for every day and shortcuts to the next new moon and the next full moon. It covers all eight phases: new moon, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full moon, waning gibbous, last quarter and waning crescent. • Stargazing nights: dark-sky windows for every night of the month you are viewing, rated Excellent, Good, Fair or Poor by the hours of darkness without moonlight. The night with the most dark hours is highlighted, and you can set a reminder for when the dark sky starts. • Can you see the moon? The visible window, the moon's height above the horizon, the direction to look and a verdict: yes, probably, tough or no. An optional cloud forecast, off by default, adds cloud cover. • 3D Moon globe: spin and zoom it, with a grid, names of lunar features, landing sites and near and far sides, plus live distance to Earth, apparent size, a fact sheet and a timeline of Moon missions. • Lunar events: full moons with traditional names (Wolf Moon to Cold Moon), supermoon and micromoon badges, the next perigee and apogee, total and partial lunar eclipses through 2028, and optional reminders. • Moon trivia: a 12-question quiz with explanations. • Languages and theme: English and Spanish, with a dark theme. Who it is for People who want to know what the moon looks like tonight, amateur astronomers and astrophotographers who plan around moonlight, and anyone who follows the lunar cycle. It works anywhere: use your approximate location or pick one of 12 preset cities, such as Montevideo, Buenos Aires, Madrid or Miami. How it works 1. Allow approximate location or choose a city. 2. Read tonight's moon and the "Can you see the moon?" verdict on the home screen. 3. Check the stargazing list and tap Create reminder on the night you want. Questions and answers Q: What is the moon phase tonight? A: The home screen shows tonight's phase, the percentage lit, the day of the lunar cycle and the moonrise and moonset times for your location. Q: When is the next full moon or new moon? A: Two shortcuts on the home screen jump to those dates in the calendar, and the Events tab lists upcoming full moons. Dates use the mean lunar cycle and can differ by a few hours. Q: Can I see the moon tonight where I am? A: The "Can you see the moon?" card shows the visible window, the moon's height and the direction to look. With the optional cloud forecast on, the verdict also uses cloud cover. Q: Which nights are good for stargazing? A: The app finds dark-sky windows for every night of the month you are viewing and rates each night from Excellent (4 hours or more) to Poor. A dark-sky window is the stretch of night after twilight with no bright moon in the way. Q: Does it work in the southern hemisphere? A: Yes. The moon disc is mirrored for southern latitudes, as in Argentina, Uruguay, Chile or Australia. Q: Does it work without an internet connection? A: The astronomy is calculated on your device and works without a connection. Ads and the optional cloud forecast need internet. Privacy and ads No account is needed. Approximate location is optional and is used on your device to calculate the sky; the optional cloud forecast sends a location rounded to about 11 km to a weather service. The app contains ads and has no in-app purchases or subscriptions. Ads, analytics and crash reports use third-party services. Developed by Awesome Apps. Contact: [email protected]
