Full description
Which article goes with which noun? For anyone learning German, this is the question that stays hard the longest. English manages with one word for all of it: the. German has three, and der, die or das has to be learned again for every single noun. Turkish, Russian, Ukrainian and Arabic speakers have it even harder: their languages have no articles at all. This app was built for that one problem. THE APP ITSELF IS ENTIRELY IN GERMAN Every screen, every button and every example sentence is German. That is a deliberate decision, not an oversight: you learn the articles inside the language they belong to, with no English translation between you and the word. The wording is as simple as the vocabulary itself, so it stays readable from A1 onwards. If you have not started German at all yet, this should not be your first app. YOUR MISTAKES COME BACK UNTIL THEY STICK The app remembers every word you get wrong and asks it again on purpose: after minutes, then hours, then days. Words you already know show up less and less often. So you spend your time on the words that really give you trouble, instead of confirming the easy ones over and over. 1799 NOUNS FROM A1 TO B2 Not a dictionary with 50,000 entries, but a selection: the nouns that actually come up in everyday life, in class and in the exam. 416 words at A1, 522 at A2, 565 at B1 and 296 at B2, spread over 22 topics, from food, housing and family to work, health, money, technology, media and science. For every word you get the article, the plural form and an example sentence. RULES THAT EXPLAIN THE WHY For 789 words the app also shows the rule behind it: endings such as -ung, -heit, -keit, -schaft or -chen give the gender away. Once you know the patterns, you no longer have to memorise each word on its own: you can work out the article for words you have never seen. A DICTIONARY TO LOOK THINGS UP All 1799 words are searchable, with article, plural and example sentence. For the moment when you hesitate halfway through a sentence. EXAM MODE 20 words, 8 seconds per word, your score in percent at the end. If you cannot think for long in a real exam, you should not do it while practising either. PROGRESS YOU CAN SEE A daily goal, a learning streak and experience points. You can tell how many words you have safely mastered and what still needs work. NO SIGN-UP, NO ACCOUNT, OFFLINE No registration, no email address, no subscription. The app works completely offline: on the train, in the waiting room, on a break. Your progress stays on your device and is never uploaded anywhere. Ads appear only as a small banner on the overview screens. Training and exam mode are never interrupted. WHO THIS APP IS FOR - German learners at levels A1, A2, B1 and B2 - Immigrants and expats in Germany, Austria and Switzerland - People in integration courses and German courses - Students, Erasmus participants and pupils taking German as a foreign language - For preparing DTZ, Goethe-Zertifikat, telc or the citizenship test - Anyone whose first language handles gender differently, or not at all Der, die, das: three short words, 1799 nouns, and an app that keeps asking until they stick.
