Route: Vending Machine Round

Six vending machines. One van. One day. You drive the round, see what sold since you were last there, restock out of the back, and set one price at every stop. Load the van once, because it will not hold enough for everything. At each stop you see what sold out, what did not move and what went off, restock from what you brought, and set the price. Nothing you decide today is settled today. The price you set at a machine is what it pays out the next time you stand in front of it. Six stops is about three minutes, and the last one is midnight. - Yesterday's takings, machine by machine, in one glance - Six streets that want different things: the junction is commuters and hot coffee, the arcade is teenagers and cold fizz - A roof lot that is nearly dead until it is hot out, and then it carries the whole round - Weather moves all of it, and every pitch charges rent whether you stocked it or not - Twenty lines to sell and a van that will not carry them all - One price per machine per day, and the answer comes back tomorrow - Machines with opinions and no way to express them except which row jams and what somebody has taped to the front It is not idle. Nothing earns while you are away, nothing upgrades itself, and there is no tree of numbers to grind. What carries over is what you worked out about a street, and a street changes with the weather, so a round you had solved in the sun is a different round in the rain. The page colour moves with the day, from an overcast morning to the one lit sign at the last stop. Plays offline apart from the ads. No account, no login, no energy bar. English and Korean.
