Full description
Coral Lava Leaps is a quiet, fully offline board game built around Konane, the old Hawaiian game of jumping stones. It is not chess and it is not draughts. There is no diagonal movement, no promotion, no forward-only rule, and no such thing as a quiet move. The table starts completely full, and from the very first turn the only thing that ever happens is that stones come off it. THE TABLE OPENS BY EMPTYING Every square begins occupied, charcoal and ivory alternating like a checkerboard. The charcoal side lifts one of its own stones from a corner or from the middle four squares. The ivory side answers by lifting one of its own stones orthogonally beside that hole. Two empty squares, and the game is open. EVERY TURN IS A CAPTURE After the opening, a turn means jumping one of your stones over an adjacent enemy stone into the empty square directly beyond it, straight up, down, left or right. The stone you jumped is lifted away. If your landing square lets you jump again in the very same direction, you may keep going and take another stone, and another. A chain can never turn a corner. You always choose when to stop: after every hop the game offers Leap again or Stop here, so a chain is a decision, not an animation. THE PLAYER WHO RUNS DRY LOSES Nobody wins by counting stones. The first player with no legal jump on their turn loses the table. That makes freedom, not material, the real currency, so both sides carry a live leaps-open counter next to their stone count. Watching that number is how you learn to strangle a position instead of just gorging on it. A RIVAL WITH THREE GEARS Easy plays any legal leap at random and is a forgiving place to learn the pattern. Normal looks a full turn ahead, weighing the stones it takes against the mobility it keeps and the mobility it denies you. Hard searches two turns deep, answers your strongest reply, and will happily decline a fat chain if the shorter one leaves you stranded. FIVE TABS Play holds the board itself, with tap-to-select stones, glowing landing squares, dotted jump trajectories and a short fade as each captured stone leaves the table. Stats keeps your wins, your longest chain and your average captures per table. Levels sets the rival strength, an eight-by-eight or a quick six-by-six table, and whether you take the opening side or answer it. How is an illustrated explainer that draws the opening removals and the chain jumps rather than just describing them. Awards tracks ten milestones from your first finished table to a forty-stone haul. BUILT TO BE LEFT ALONE The whole game is drawn with vector graphics on a volcanic palette of basalt black, coral fissures and ivory stones. There is no internet permission and no network code of any kind. No adverts. No analytics. No accounts, no sign-in, no cloud. No sound at all, ever, so it is safe on a bus, in a waiting room or beside someone sleeping; the only feedback beyond the visuals is an optional short haptic tap when a stone comes off the table. Your record is stored on the device and survives a restart. Suitable for all ages. There is no gambling, no wagering, no currency and no violence anywhere in this app.
