Full description
Line a number plate up inside the box on screen. Roadworthy reads it on the device and checks that vehicle's tax against DVLA and its MOT record against DVSA — both official sources. For UK vehicles only. CHECK ANY VEHICLE Fill the box with the plate, or type it in. Roadworthy reads only what is inside the box, so a shop sign or the car in the next bay is not mistaken for yours. Camera access is optional — you can type the plate instead. Private and dateless plates work too — JB 1, AB 1234 and the older prefix and suffix styles. Motorcycles carry a squarer, two-line plate. Tap Motorcycle to change the box to match. You get: • Tax status and expiry date • What the vehicle costs to tax for a year • MOT status and expiry date • Make, colour, fuel type, engine size and CO₂ • Year of manufacture and date of first registration • Wheelplan, type approval and export marker MOT HISTORY Every MOT the vehicle has had on record — each pass and fail, the mileage at each test, and every advisory and failure reason in the tester's own words. It also shows where the tester could not read the mileage. A failed test and the retest that fixed it appear as one MOT. You also see the miles between tests, and any period with no valid MOT. Records go back to 2005 for cars, motorcycles and vans in Great Britain, 2017 in Northern Ireland and 2018 for lorries and buses. A mileage that suddenly drops, an advisory that keeps recurring, corrosion noted three years running — the part of a used car's past a seller need not mention. Useful before you buy a used car, and for keeping an eye on your own. COMPANY CAR TAX If an employer provides a car you can also use privately, you pay income tax on it as though it were extra pay. Roadworthy works out the tax band from the CO2, fuel and registration date it already holds. You enter the P11D value and your tax rate, Scottish rates included. The P11D value cannot be looked up: it depends on the options fitted to that exact car. Where a band cannot be worked out honestly, Roadworthy says so rather than guessing. YOUR VEHICLES Save the vehicles you care about and see at a glance when tax or MOT is due. They stay on your phone. REPORTING Most vehicles are legal, and for most checks that is the end of it. When a check finds an untaxed vehicle, Roadworthy fills in the DVLA report for you — registration, make, model, colour, and where and when you saw it. You review every value on screen before anything is sent, and you decide whether to send it. When a check finds no valid MOT, the report goes to the police instead, because DVLA and DVSA cannot act on a missing MOT. Roadworthy finds the force covering where you saw the vehicle, copies the details and opens that force's own form. You paste them in and submit it yourself. A vehicle with no MOT parked on a driveway is committing no offence, so Roadworthy asks where you saw it and offers the report only when there is one to make. Roadworthy never files a report on its own. PRIVACY • Photographs never leave your device. Number plates are read on the phone itself. • There is no account. Tax and vehicle details go from your phone straight to DVLA. MOT history passes through a small server we run, which receives the registration and nothing else. • Advertising never receives vehicle data — an automated test enforces it. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO Roadworthy does not check insurance, and no app can — there is no lawful public access to the Motor Insurance Database. For your own vehicles, it opens the Motor Insurers' Bureau's service so you can check there. Roadworthy is supported by advertising. In the UK and Ireland you are asked for consent before any advertising identifier is collected, and it works normally if you refuse. Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Roadworthy is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the DVLA, DVSA, the Motor Insurers' Bureau, or any government body.

What's new

• Saved vehicles now show when a car is untaxed or SORN, instead of "Not recorded".
