Full description
CartoScribe is a tool for georeferenced field measurements and for turning them into isoline maps. You decide what you measure: any instrument, any quantity, any unit. The app takes care of geolocation, storage and visualisation. HOW IT WORKS 1. Create a measurement file and define your set of metrics (name + unit). 2. At the spot, add a record: coordinates, accuracy, WGS84 altitude and provider are filled in automatically — you only type in the instrument readings. 3. Build an isoline map for the selected metric. DATA - Open format — plain UTF-8 CSV (";" delimiter). Files live in a folder you pick through the system dialog: no cloud, no accounts, no proprietary databases. - Data is easy to pull into QGIS, Excel or your own script. The app is registered as a CSV handler, so a file can be opened in or shared to CartoScribe from another app. - Built-in sensor readings (barometric pressure, magnetic field magnitude) are recorded automatically when the device has those sensors. - A point can also be placed manually by long-pressing the map — for a location you are not physically standing at. - Editing values, deleting records, stepping through points with arrows, ratio of a value to the dataset average. - Bulk selection: a rectangle on the map, inverted selection, delete, move or copy a group of points into a new map. ISOLINE MAP - Built with marching squares over a grid of configurable size. - Empty cells restored from weighted nearest neighbours: number of passes and radius are configurable. - Aggregation of nearby points — maximum, minimum or average. - On-screen marker limit, marker style, overlay transparency, colour scale of values. - PNG export with legend, value range, centre and a QR code pointing at the map centre in Google Maps. Labels with the file name and coordinates can be switched off before you pass the image to third parties. BASEMAPS AND OFFLINE - Base map — OpenStreetMap on the MapLibre engine. - Your own HTTP tile providers using a {z}/{x}/{y} template: mercator type, tile size, maximum zoom, transparency, disk cache retention and per-provider cache reset. - Offline basemaps from local .mbtiles files. - GeoTIFF (.tif/.tiff, including BigTIFF over 4 GB): EPSG:4326 and EPSG:3857, palette / grayscale / RGB / RGBA, 8/16/32-bit integer and float, LZW, Deflate and PackBits compression, strip and tile storage. The file is never loaded into memory as a whole — only the fragments actually needed are read, so very large rasters open fine. - Hillshaded terrain from a DEM source (XYZ template, Terrarium format) over any basemap, with adjustable intensity. OTHER - Interface in Russian, English and Belarusian. - Detailed built-in help, including how to prepare MBTiles and GeoTIFF in QGIS. - No ads, no sign-up. Location access is used only for the coordinates of a measurement; data is never sent anywhere. The app is not tied to any particular subject area: background radiation, magnetometry, soil moisture, signal strength, illuminance, depth, temperature — anything you can measure with an instrument and write down as a number.
