Caught short? poo.co.nz is New Zealand's most comprehensive, accurate and accessible map of public toilets. Whether you're in a major city like Auckland, a rural town like Tākaka, or way out on a track like the Mueller Hut Route near Aoraki, you can find the nearest public toilet in seconds — and see exactly what to expect before you go. FIND WHAT YOU ACTUALLY NEED - Wheelchair accessible toilets - Baby changing facilities - Gender-neutral and unisex toilets - Showers and drinking water - Opening hours and an "open now" indicator - Walking and driving directions Search the map, or switch to the List view to see every toilet as text, sorted by distance. TRUSTWORTHY, LABELLED DATA Every listing tells you where its information came from: Provider Verified (supplied and maintained by the council or operator), poo.co.nz Verified, Community Added, or Crowdsourced. Official provider data is never overwritten by community edits. Where a council has never told us whether a toilet has a particular feature, we say "not stated" rather than guessing. A guess about a grab rail is worth nothing to the person who needs one. BUILT FOR ACCESSIBILITY This is an app about accessible toilets, so we hold it to the same standard the government holds councils to: WCAG 2.2 Level AA, the basis of the NZ Government Web Accessibility Standard. We go beyond it where it matters most — colour contrast, text size and large touch targets. Everything works by keyboard alone, and every facility is announced in words rather than by colour, so a screen reader never tells you a toilet is wheelchair accessible when it isn't. WHY IT MATTERS Accessibility: people with disabilities, chronic conditions and older people need reliable, detailed toilet access information. Tourism: visitors to New Zealand should find clean, safe facilities easily, wherever they travel. Inclusion: gender-neutral and accessible toilets matter for everyone. Public information, made usable: toilet data is scattered and inconsistent. We compile it from councils (including official information requests under LGOIMA), public data sources, community contributions and our own site visits — into one free national map.
