mAPRS

mAPRS is an APRS application for amateur radio operators that automatically sends the device’s current position to the APRS-IS network. The application uses the device’s location data and automatically adjusts the way APRS packets are transmitted according to the user’s current movement. Key features: • automatic position transmission to APRS-IS, • support for amateur radio callsigns and APRS SSIDs, • HOME, PEDESTRIAN and MOBILE operating profiles, • intelligent adjustment of position reporting intervals based on movement, speed and distance travelled, • course change detection while driving, • configurable APRS comments, • background operation after tracking has been started, • status information and time since the last transmitted APRS packet. Operating modes mAPRS automatically detects movement conditions and applies an appropriate position reporting policy. This helps reduce unnecessary APRS packets while stationary and provides more accurate route tracking while moving. For a configured HOME location, the application can use a separate position reporting policy. APRS-IS APRS packets are sent directly to the APRS-IS infrastructure. To use the application, a valid amateur radio callsign and the information required to access APRS-IS are required. Location and privacy The primary function of mAPRS is to publish the user’s location to the APRS network. Once tracking has been started, the application may also use precise location while running in the background. Data transmitted to APRS-IS may be publicly available to other users and services using the APRS network.
