Full description
Bedside nurses, doctors, and caregivers are often subjected to significant stress and vicarious trauma inherent in their profession. They, like individuals in any field, may also contend with personal issues that can impact their professional performance. This initiative aims to facilitate connections between providers, practitioners, caregivers, and trained peer supporters, as well as vetted mental health professionals nationwide. The overarching objective of this platform is to serve as a comprehensive resource hub for medical providers, offering diverse treatment options, educational materials, external support sources, real-time interaction with advisors and peers, sharing of survival stories, access to lifestyle information, retreat opportunities, and more. The Peer Support Group serves as an initial avenue for personnel to seek advice and counseling from trusted individuals within a non-judgmental environment. Those who choose to engage with a Peer Supporter often experience significant benefits. Unfortunately, the Peer Support Program is frequently underutilized due to concerns about potential rumors spreading within the hospital, which may make practitioners hesitant to seek assistance. To address this challenge and counteract the pervasive "beauty-shop mentality" often observed in departments, WeNeverCareAlone facilitates connections among Peer Support Teams nationwide. This ensures that practitioners can reach out to a Peer Supporter without hesitation, thereby increasing anonymity and enabling providers to seek support anytime and from anywhere. Furthermore, the WeNeverCareAlone portal offers a directory of mental health professionals and counselors, along with a plethora of carefully curated resources tailored for medical providers. Key features of the network include: - Individual sign-in credentials for every department member to access resources - Complete anonymity, as user activities are not tracked - Usage metrics are left to the discretion of department heads, who can inquire with their respective Peer Support Groups about received calls - Each department joining the network is required to contribute 7% to 10% of its size as trained peer supporters to the network Badge of Life, a prominent organization specializing in mental health and suicide prevention training for law enforcement officers, along with Ms. Vickie Poklop MS, LPC from Des Plaines PD, IL, will oversee the vetting process for mental health professionals listed on the platform. WeNeverCareAlone and Badge of Life adhere strictly to the American Psychological Association's (APA) Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct in all endeavors. The mental health professionals enlisted possess extensive experience working with first responders and are fully committed to supporting the community at all times. The platform also provides articles, news items, research papers, and treatment options aimed at promoting the holistic well-being of medical providers. Topics covered include family-focused counseling, couples/marriage counseling, children's needs, parenting tips, various therapy modalities (e.g., EMDR, talk therapy, Reiki, hypnotherapy, exposure therapy, substance abuse treatment), work-related stress triggers, and more. This initiative represents a pioneering and unprecedented effort nationwide, serving as a model for similar endeavors in the future. It is characterized by modernity, engagement, relevance, aesthetics, user-friendliness, and high efficiency.
