LocalGuide: Offline AI Chat

LocalGuide is a private, offline-first AI assistant that runs entirely on your phone. Chat, translate, get practical tips on water and hygiene, and fill out forms — all processed on-device, with no internet connection required and no data ever leaving your phone. AI ASSISTANCE THAT WORKS ANYWHERE LocalGuide is built for places where connectivity is unreliable, expensive, or unavailable. Once the AI model is downloaded (or shared from another device), everything works completely offline — in remote areas, on metered connections, or with airplane mode on. WHAT YOU CAN DO • General chat — ask questions and get helpful answers • Water & Hygiene — practical tips on safe drinking water, hygiene, sanitation, and food safety • Translation — translate text between languages • Forms assistance — get help understanding and completing documents LANGUAGES The app is available in English, Arabic, Swahili, French, Ukrainian, Amharic and Pashto, and the assistant replies in the language you write in. Answer quality in Amharic and Pashto is limited — both are available, and the app says so. PRIVATE BY DESIGN • 100% on-device AI — your conversations never leave your phone • No account, no sign-up, no tracking, no ads • Chat history stored locally with database encryption (SQLCipher) • Works fully in airplane mode BUILT FOR EVERYDAY PHONES LocalGuide runs a 2-billion-parameter language model (Qwen3.5-2B) efficiently on modest hardware: • Automatic device tier detection adapts performance to your phone • Lite Mode reduces memory usage on low-RAM devices • Eco Mode reduces CPU usage to save battery • Large touch targets, high contrast, and screen reader support FLEXIBLE MODEL DOWNLOAD The AI model (1.3–1.4 GB) is downloaded separately after install. Downloads can be paused and resumed — useful on slow or metered connections. You can also import a model file shared from another device, no internet required. REQUIREMENTS • Android 10 or newer • 64-bit (arm64) processor • 3 GB+ RAM recommended • About 3 GB of free storage while installing; roughly half is freed once the model is in place LICENSE LocalGuide and its AI model are licensed under Apache 2.0.
