Megido Gliding Centre — the official app for club members. The app brings together everything a member needs on a flying day. It is for registered members only; signing in requires an active Megido Gliding Centre account. What the app does: • Activity days — which days are open for flying, their details, and registration. • Duty roster — the field manager, instructor and tow pilot on duty, and when your own duty falls. • Takeoff queue — the live queue at the airfield, and joining it from the field. • Glider booking — reserve a glider for a date, and see your place in the queue. • Weather and forecast for the airfield. • Club documents and general information. • Student reports, guest flight requests and instruction booking. Works without a connection: Reception at the airfield is not always available. The app keeps a local copy of the activity days, the duty roster and the takeoff queue, and keeps showing them when the connection drops. When it does, a clear notice states that the data is not live and gives the exact time it was captured, so there is no doubt about what is on screen. Actions that change data — such as joining the takeoff queue — are disabled while offline and are never performed in the background. Flight track recording — opt-in, for pilots who have been given access: A pilot with access can record the flight track from their phone. Recording starts only after it is switched on explicitly on a dedicated screen, and continues while the screen is off or the app is in the background — so the phone does not have to be left awake on its mount for the whole flight. While a recording is running an ongoing notification is shown and cannot be dismissed, with a button to stop immediately. While recording, the app captures position, altitude, speed and direction of travel, along with the raw readings of the phone's motion and rotation sensors, its compass and its barometric pressure sensor where the device has one. The purpose is research: to find out whether takeoff, tow release and landing can be detected automatically, whether the track can be reconstructed when satellite reception weakens, and whether the vertical motion of the air can be estimated. The data changes no flight record and affects no billing. Recording stops with one tap, and also on its own — after six hours, or once the phone has been on the ground for several minutes more than three kilometres from the airfield.
