Full description
Army Women’s Welfare Association (AWWA), formerly known as the Army Wives Welfare Association, is a dedicated organization committed to the welfare and well-being of Veer Naris, widows, families of serving and retired Indian Army personnel, and Children with Special Needs (CwSN). Often referred to as the “Invisible Hand of the Indian Army,” AWWA has played a vital role in strengthening and supporting Army families for decades. Established on **23 August 1966** under the Registration of Societies Act, 1860, AWWA was formed in response to the challenges faced during the **1965 Indo-Pak War**, when large-scale troop mobilization highlighted the need for a dependable support system for soldiers’ families. From its inception, AWWA mobilized Army spouses and volunteers to provide comfort, support, guidance, and hope to families during difficult times. By the **1971 Indo-Pak War**, AWWA had developed a strong support network and played a crucial role in ensuring the welfare of Army families, giving soldiers the confidence and assurance that their loved ones were being cared for while they served the Nation. For over five decades, AWWA has worked tirelessly to uplift and support spouses, children, and dependents of Army personnel. The organization believes that a soldier performs at their best when they know their family back home is secure and cared for. The unique demands of military life and the sacrifices made by Army families are best understood within the Army fraternity itself. Guided by the ethos of **“Caring for Our Own,”** AWWA continues to empower, support, and enrich the lives of the Army community. **Key Focus Areas:** • Welfare of Veer Naris and widows • Support for serving and retired Army families • Assistance for Children with Special Needs (CwSN) • Family welfare and empowerment initiatives • Community support and outreach programs • Education, guidance, and social welfare activities The AWWA app brings these initiatives closer to the Army community, enabling easier access to information, support services, updates, and welfare resources—all in one place.
