BCAT

BCAT (Body Composition Assessment Tool) is a decision-support tool developed for sports and health professionals who assess body composition (BC) in athletes. The app guides you step by step through a structured evaluation of whether it is appropriate to proceed with a BC assessment, based on recommendations from the IOC consensus on Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (REDs). HOW IT WORKS You answer a series of yes/no questions organized across eight steps: • Preparation • Starting the assessment • Choice of method • Data collection • Interpretation of data • Reporting of data • Communication of data • Monitoring Along the way, you receive color-coded guidance: 🟢 Green – continue to the next step 🟡 Yellow – be attentive, consider action before continuing 🔴 Red – do not proceed until the issue has been resolved WHO IS IT FOR? BCAT is designed for sports and health professionals involved in assessing body composition in athletes — not for athletes to self-assess. Important: The app is a support tool and does not replace professional, medical, or ethical judgment. Use of the app should be part of a holistic assessment carried out by relevant professionals. PRIVACY The app requires no login or personal information. Your answers are processed locally on your device. When you finish a review, the app may send an anonymous result status (e.g. whether the assessment was completed or stopped) for statistics and further development of the app — no names, emails, or other identifying information is collected. ABOUT THE PROJECT BCAT was developed as a bachelor's project in the Information Systems program at Østfold University College, commissioned by Therese Fostervold Mathisen.
