Velodrome Duel is a track cycling sprint game built on a real rider simulation. Power, air drag, drafting, the banking and your legs' reserve decide every heat. PEDAL, CLIMB, JUMP Hold the right side of the screen to pedal hard and ease off to soft-pedal. Slide your left thumb to ride higher up the banking or drop down to the black line. Double-tap to jump — a short burst above your maximum power that costs extra energy. A RIDER THAT OBEYS PHYSICS Your speed comes from your power against air drag and rolling resistance. Tuck in 0.3 to 3 metres behind a rival and the draft cuts your drag by up to 35 percent. Height on the 43-degree banking is stored speed: climb to watch, dive to launch. Ride too slowly up high and you slide down the boards. LEGS THAT RUN OUT Every rider has a critical power and a limited anaerobic reserve. Push above it and the reserve drains; ease off and it refills. Empty it too early and your legs are capped at cruising power while the rival comes past. Timing the jump is everything. REAL MATCH SPRINT RULES Three laps from a standing start, the bell at one lap to go and best of three heats. In the last 200 metres the leader in the sprinter's lane may not be passed on the inside, moving down onto a rider beside you means relegation, and contact while moving into a rival means a crash. EIGHT RIVALS, EIGHT STYLES Every rival has their own power, reserve, aerodynamics and tactic: lead-out, sit and wait, long sprint or a swoop from the rail. They read your position, seek your wheel, climb to watch you and jump at their own distance. THREE WAYS TO RACE - Sprint Tournament: a flying 200 metre qualifier sets your seed, then eight rounds of best-of-three match sprints against rising rivals. - Keirin: six riders behind a pacer bike that pulls off with two and a half laps to go; the top two advance from heat to semi-final to final. - Flying 200: build speed high on the banking, dive and race the clock for medal times. PIT LANE Laurels earned on the track buy four upgrade lines over five levels: Aero Frame lowers your drag area, Gear Ratio balances acceleration and top speed, Sprint Legs raise your maximum power and Deep Lungs grow your reserve and recovery.
