Full description
Deep in the rainforest, light falls through the canopy in long green shafts. Twisted vines hang from the branches above, mossy stumps rise from the forest floor, and between them, barely larger than a thumb, a hummingbird hovers with its feathers shimmering blue and teal. It must keep moving. A light touch on the screen lifts it a little higher; let go, and gravity draws it gently down. Along the way, pink blossoms glow in the gaps, and every one it reaches adds to the count on its journey. 🌺 Twenty legs across four continents The great journey begins in South America, where the vines hang still and the gaps are wide. The bird slips past the Amazon Basin, the Andes Cloud Forest, the Pantanal, the Atlantic Forest and the Orinoco Delta, five legs in all, each ending at a vine dressed in flowers where it can land in safety. Then the route turns north, to Yucatán, the Sierra Madre, the Everglades and the Great Smoky, where the paths grow tangled. In Africa, past the Congo Basin, Okavango and Kilimanjaro, the air moves faster and the gaps draw tighter. Finally, in Asia, from Borneo to Yunnan, the lianas begin to sway as the bird passes. Each leg earns up to three blossom stars depending on how many flowers it sips, sixty across the whole migration, and every leg completed opens the next. When the long journey can wait, there is a shorter test of speed. The one-minute flower rush starts a sixty-second clock at the first touch, and the task is simple: sip as many flowers as possible before time runs out. The forest is no kinder here. Each brush against a vine, a stump or the ground costs three seconds from the clock, so a clean line matters as much as a quick one. The highest count is kept, and a log of recent runs records the flowers gathered and the hits taken. 🦜 A field guide to the birds of the world Back at the nest, a field guide holds 32 bird species, arranged from A to Z, from the Andean Condor and the Arctic Tern to the Bald Eagle and the Bar-tailed Godwit. Each entry gives a Latin name, a home region, a size and a few short facts, with a search box and a letter filter to find any bird quickly. A higher-or-lower quiz then sets two species side by side and asks which is larger in wingspan, faster, heavier and more, and it runs until the first wrong answer. As goals are reached across the game, twelve perforated bird stamps settle into the nest album, from the Bee Hummingbird to the Barn Owl. There is no sound, haptics and the moving background can be switched off, and the whole journey plays offline without signing in.
