Full description
Kanji is where most Japanese learners stall. Moka is a kanji app that turns every character into a picture and a short story, so the strokes stop being noise and start being something you recognize the next day. HOW MOKA TEACHES KANJI Each of the 982 kanji from JLPT N5 to N2 arrives with its own illustration and a mnemonic written in English by people who study Japanese, never machine translated. You learn the meaning, then the on'yomi and kun'yomi readings in hiragana and katakana, then you see the kanji inside real words, with 2,946 example words of Japanese vocabulary. Practice follows: matching, typing, reading, and saying the reading out loud while speech recognition checks your pronunciation through the microphone. Spaced, interleaved review then brings each kanji back shortly before you would forget it, which is the moment that makes it stick. STUDY JAPANESE ALONE WITHOUT BUILDING A DECK Learning Japanese alone, with no class and no tutor, rarely fails for lack of motivation. It fails on one question: which kanji do I study today. Moka opens on the next kanji in your path, N5 then N4, N3 and N2, in order. No deck to build, no list to maintain, no settings to tune. WHAT YOU GET 982 kanji from JLPT N5 to N2, level by level. A custom picture and a mnemonic story for every kanji. 2,946 example words, so each kanji shows up in real Japanese vocabulary. On'yomi and kun'yomi readings written in hiragana and katakana. Speaking practice with speech recognition for your pronunciation. Writing practice, stroke by stroke. Spaced repetition that decides on its own when a kanji comes back. A scanner that identifies a kanji through your camera. A calm app: no leaderboards, no streak guilt, no pressure notifications. WHAT A SESSION LOOKS LIKE You meet a new kanji with its illustration and its story. You learn the meaning, then the readings in kana, so you can say them and not only recognize them. You see the character inside real Japanese words. Then you practice in several formats, including out loud. Ten minutes covers a new kanji plus the reviews that are due. FROM JLPT N5 TO N2 Moka follows the JLPT path: the N5 kanji first, then N4, N3 and N2, one continuous plan of 982 kanji. JLPT preparation and everyday Japanese reading practice become the same study session. START FREE Everything is open for your first 7 days, all 982 kanji included. After that, 100 kanji stay free for good, with their pictures, mnemonics and reviews. Moka Pro unlocks every kanji, writing, speaking, all example words and the scanner, as a subscription or a one time lifetime purchase. WHO MOKA IS FOR Beginners who already read hiragana and katakana and want their first kanji. Self taught learners studying Japanese alone, with or without a course. JLPT candidates, from the N5 exam up to N2. And anyone who has tried plain kanji flashcards, forgotten them two weeks later, and wants mnemonics that hold. COMMON QUESTIONS Do I need kana first? It helps a lot, because every reading is shown in hiragana and katakana. Is this just another flashcard app? Flashcards are one part of it. Moka also drills active recall, reading and pronunciation of the same kanji. Does it work next to a textbook? Yes. Moka carries the kanji and the Japanese vocabulary while your course handles grammar and conversation. SUPPORT A question, a kanji that looks wrong, a mnemonic that did not land for you? Write to [email protected]. We read every message. Download Moka and make kanji stick.
