Most birdwatching apps tell you what a bird is. Magpeye tells you what it is worth. A house sparrow in central London is a shrug. The same bird in a Norwegian valley in February is a find. Magpeye knows the difference, because every species is scored against where you are standing and the month you are standing there, drawn from millions of real occurrence records rather than a guess. COLLECT Every species you log becomes a card. 589 species across more than 100 regions in 36 countries, each tiered Common through Legendary. The tier is not a property of the bird. It is computed from where you are and the time of year, so the same species can be ordinary at home and Legendary two countries away. IDENTIFY, ON YOUR PHONE Heard something you cannot place? Record it. Photographed something you cannot name? Point the camera at it. Both models run entirely on the device. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is kept, and both work with no signal at all, which is usually where the birds are. THE ATLAS Every bird you have found, on the spot you found it. The Almanac shows which month gives you the best chance of a species, region by region. The Rarity Locator shows one species across every region at once. When a sighting reaches the community map, the position is deliberately displaced before it leaves the database, between 500 metres and 15 kilometres, widest for the rarest birds.
