Full description
There is something on the tracker. The Nostromo's readout, cut down to a watch face: the company plate across the top, the ship's registry on the line below it with the day's steps logged after it, and the time in seven-segment green beside the date. Across the foot of the dial the motion tracker sweeps, and there is always a contact on it — stepping one range closer every second. THE MOTION TRACKER A half circle running the width of the dial: five radials out of the apex, three dashed range arcs inside a double rim, and a contact that appears out beyond the arc and steps one range closer every second. Four ranges, and then it starts again from outside. It is the seconds hand of this dial — while you are looking at it, it moves. It never arrives. THE SECOND LINE NOSTROMO 180924609, and the steps you have taken today written after it, as though the ship were logging them for you. The line is centred as a whole, so the registry shifts a little either side as the count grows — which is what a line of type does when a number in the middle of it gets longer. THE GAUGE Nine bars in a rounded outline, under the date. Lit from the left, and the outline is drawn whether they are lit or not: the outline says how much there could be and the bars say how much there is. One bar left means one bar left. THE RING The day's steps against your goal, drawn from twelve o'clock clockwise just inside the rim. It closes into a full circle when you get there. WHAT IT SHOWS • Hours and minutes, 12- or 24-hour • Weekday written out in full, with the month, the day and the year • Steps taken, logged after the ship's registry • Heart rate, live • Step goal, as a ring around the dial • Battery, as a nine-bar gauge • A motion tracker that steps every second ONE COLOUR, ALL THE WAY THROUGH Every mark on this dial is the same phosphor green. No accent, no second colour, no red when the battery runs low — a ship's readout is lit by one tube, and so is this one. The battery tells you where it is by how much of it is left, not by changing colour at you. ON THE WRIST Leave always-on enabled and the readout goes dark, leaving the hour and minute alone in a dim green that drifts a few pixels each minute so that no pixel carries a stroke for long. Raise your wrist and the Nostromo comes back up. YOUR DATA NEVER LEAVES YOUR WATCH Your steps and your heart rate are read on the watch and shown on the watch. Nothing is collected, nothing is stored and nothing is sent anywhere — there is no server to send it to. The body sensors permission is the only one asked for, and it is what lets the pulse appear at all. NO ADS. NO SUBSCRIPTION. NO ACCOUNT. NOTHING ELSE TO SET UP No menus to learn. Install it, choose it, and the tracker is sweeping. It follows your watch's own 12- or 24-hour setting. An Alien watch face — the Nostromo, Weyland-Yutani, a motion tracker, and a green retro sci-fi readout in a dark corridor. An unofficial fan-made tribute.
