Full description
Every leopard wears its own fingerprint. No two coats share the same rosette pattern, so a single clear photo of a leopard's flank is enough to tell which individual you're looking at. LeopardID is a field app for the trackers, rangers and researchers who follow Sri Lanka's wild leopards. Photograph a leopard, and the app compares its rosettes against every individual in the catalog, on your phone, in seconds, with no signal needed. Built for the field • Identify on-device: matching runs on the phone itself, so it works deep inside the park with no connectivity. • One photo is enough: crop to the flank and run a match against the full catalog. • GPS and time tagged automatically, from the photo itself or from your device. • Offline park maps for plotting where sightings were made. • Sightings you record offline are queued and sync automatically once you're back in range. A catalog that outlasts memory • Hundreds of individually catalogued leopards from Kumana, Wilpattu and Yala, and growing with every new enrolment. • Each individual's profile, reference photos and sighting history, available offline. • Trackers can enrol a new individual when a leopard doesn't match anyone on file, and submit sightings for review. Accounts Sign in with email, Google or Facebook. Anyone can browse the catalog and run identifications; recording sightings and enrolling new leopards is for tracker accounts, which park administrators grant. Protecting the animals Exact sighting locations are sensitive: publishing them can expose leopards to poaching or disturbance. Coordinates are visible only to signed-in users of the service and never on the public website. Please don't photograph people, and don't share locations outside the app. LeopardID is built by Mickiesoft (Pvt) Ltd in Sri Lanka. If you run a park, research programme or conservation initiative and would like to use it, email [email protected]. Privacy policy: https://leopardid.mickiesoft.lk/privacy
