Full description
What did Munich look like in the past? Zeitblende brings historical photographs and walkable 3D reconstructions together. Discover photos on the map, browse the archive and explore the city as it once was. WALK THROUGH HISTORY Explore Stachus, Königsplatz and Wiesn in 3D. Move through reconstructed scenes, change your viewpoint and discover different historical states. FIND PHOTOS WHERE THEY WERE TAKEN Start at Marienplatz and find geolocated archive photographs on the map. The archive focuses on Munich and the surrounding 50 km. Filter photos by year and open them directly on the map. You can use the map without granting location access. ONE PHOTO, NEW PERSPECTIVES Compare the original, restored black-and-white version, colorized version and animated clip, depending on what is available. Zoom in on details and share a link to the photograph. YOUR WINDOW INTO THE ARCHIVE Search by place, year, subject or photographer. Filters for time period, year and tags help you find photos. First-use tips explain the map, time travels and photo archive. ON SITE · BETA At the reconstructed locations, compare the historical scene with your camera’s view of the surroundings. On compatible ARCore devices, roughly align the reconstruction, adjust it manually and reveal or hide objects in stages. This optional Beta requires camera and precise location access; alignment is approximate. The archive and virtual walkthroughs remain available without AR. SEVEN LANGUAGES The interface is available in German, English, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese and Simplified Chinese. Translated archive information appears in your language when available; untranslated fields remain in German. FROM SOURCE TO MODEL An illustrated introduction shows how historical photos are restored, compared with other sources and turned into spatial reconstructions. Colors, added geometry and movement are approximations and interpretations. Pay once: the app includes all its 3D locations, with no additional scene purchases. No ads or user account required. Image versions and information vary by photograph. An internet connection is required for archive images, clips and the initial 3D downloads. Each 3D location downloads when you first open it and confirm the download, and needs available storage space.
