Full description
Light Meter turns your phone's built-in light sensor (ambient light sensor) into a simple lux meter. Measure the brightness of a room, desk, plant spot or photo setup in lux, with no extra hardware. Is my desk bright enough for reading? How much brighter is the room after switching to LED bulbs? Does this window spot get enough light for my plants? Check it with a real number. ■ Key features • Real-time lux measurement: the reading updates instantly as the light changes. • Foot-candles (fc) too: see the foot-candle value next to lux, handy for US lighting guides. • Arc gauge: read brightness at a glance on a 0 to 5,000 lx scale. • Lighting level guide: shows whether the light matches room, bathroom, hallway, desk or kitchen lighting, with the range (e.g. 300–400 lx). • Min, average and max: records the lowest, average and highest brightness while you measure. • Pause and resume: freeze a reading and read it comfortably. • Reset: clear the stats and start fresh when you move to another spot. • Dark mode: the meter screen stays dark, so it won't dazzle you in dim places. Choose light, dark or system mode for the settings screen. • Simple to use: no setup needed. Just point your phone toward the light. ■ Great for • Study and desk lighting: check that your desk is bright enough for reading and homework. • Offices and workspaces: check light levels at computer desks, shop displays and workbenches. • Houseplants and grow lights: compare window light and LED grow lights in lux. • Photography and video: match the brightness of your key light and portrait lighting. • House hunting: compare how much daylight each room gets during a viewing. • Lighting upgrades: compare brightness before and after changing bulbs or LED fixtures. • Bedroom: check that your bedroom is dark enough for sleep. ■ Lighting levels shown in the app (lux) • Under 50 lx: Minimum illumination • 50–100 lx: Lighting in the room • 100–150 lx: Lighting in the bathroom • 150–200 lx: Lighting in the hallway • 200–300 lx: Bright fluorescent light • 300–400 lx: Desk lighting • 400–600 lx: Kitchen lighting • 600 lx and above: Maximum lighting ■ How to measure 1. Point the light sensor at the top of the screen (usually near the front camera) toward the light source. 2. Keep your hand and body from covering the sensor. 3. When the reading settles, tap Pause to hold it. * Readings vary by device because light sensors differ in position and characteristics. Use them as a reference, not as a replacement for a calibrated professional lux meter. * Devices without a light sensor cannot take measurements.
