mTagger

mTagger is a M-Pesa expense tracker. Your M-Pesa messages are already a record of what you spend. mTagger reads them on your phone and turns them into a running picture of where the money went. NO RECEIPTS to keep, NO MANUAL ENTRY required, NO ACCOUNT needed. WHAT IT DOES • Reads M-Pesa confirmation messages as they arrive and files each one: who was paid, how much, and when. • Sorts them into your own categories using a rules engine, so most transactions are filed before you ever look at them. • Learns from you. Correct the same counterparty three times and it stops asking. Automatic categorization and tagging. • Says how sure it is. A tag it is certain of looks settled; one it is only guessing at is marked, and settles itself after a day if you do not disagree. • Shows today at a glance, the full history, and a summary of spending by heading. • Links entertainment payments to money friends sent you around the same time, so a night out you paid for is not counted twice. (BETA) EVERYTHING STAYS ON THE PHONE mTagger has no accounts, no sign-in, no server of ours and no sync. Your messages and transactions are stored on your phone and are never uploaded anywhere. The app is free because it shows ads, and fetching those is the only thing it uses a connection for. Nothing read from your messages is part of an ad request. There is no analytics, and no tracking of what you tag or how you categorise it. PERMISSIONS • Receive SMS and Read SMS — the whole point of the app. Incoming M-Pesa messages are matched against the transaction formats. • Notifications (optional) — so a new transaction can be confirmed from the lock screen. • Internet and network state — fetching ads from Google AdMob, and nothing else.
