Zoushi: Manga & Comic Reader

Zoushi is an ad-free, tracking-free comic and manga reader for your own files. Open ZIP, RAR, CBZ, CBR and PDF on Android phones, tablets, foldables and E-Ink devices. Pay once, with no subscription. Read local comics offline with two-page view, right-to-left reading and saved reading positions. Zoushi does not include comics or a manga subscription; bring your own comic files. ■ Devices • Phones, tablets, foldables and E Ink devices (Android 11+) • Foldables: one page when closed, a spread when open; the fold is avoided; your place survives folding and unfolding • Tablets: spreads in landscape, single pages in portrait, automatically; cover flow or list on the shelf • E Ink: a palette that stays readable in black and white, no thin text or faint frames; verified with real comics on BOOX ■ Three promises • Nothing gets broken — your originals (ZIP / RAR …) are never modified. Files on Dropbox or your NAS are never moved unless you do it on the shelf. • Nothing gets in your way — only settings that matter, no permanent controls on the reading screen. Tap to turn, tap the middle for the menu. • Pick up where you left off — positions are remembered per page and can be shared between your devices (optional). ■ Formats • ZIP / CBZ / RAR / CBR (RAR4 and RAR5) / PDF / image files • RAR is read in place, without conversion (including older PPMd-compressed RAR) • File-name encodings are detected automatically — Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Russian and Central European names stay readable ■ Getting books in • Drop files into Documents/Zoushi and they appear on the shelf • Pick books from Dropbox; read each one as soon as it arrives • Pull from a NAS or Nextcloud / Synology / QNAP (WebDAV) • Downloads keep going when you leave the app and resume when the network is back; progress shows on the shelf and in the notification ■ Reading • Two-page spreads that meet exactly in the middle and avoid the fold on foldables • Misaligned spread? Nudge by one page • Right-to-left (manga) or left-to-right; one page in portrait, spreads in landscape, automatically • Trim margins; sharpen when zoomed • Paper & ink tints (newsprint, sepia, night); colour pages are detected and left alone • Double-tap to zoom into a panel, pinch to zoom, volume keys to turn • Edge swipes don't trigger Android's back gesture while reading (can be turned off) ■ Library • Reads ComicInfo.xml metadata to help organise your comic collection • Cover flow and list; search by title, author or folder • Organise with folders — moves and renames on the shelf are applied to the real folders • Unread / in progress / finished at a glance; jump to the next volume when you finish • Hidden folders (unlocked with your device's screen lock) ■ Sharing your place between devices (optional) • Connect once from Settings with your own Google account. If you never connect, nothing is sent anywhere • After that, positions are shared automatically when you open the app or close a book • Stored only in the app's own hidden area of your Google Drive; the rest of your Drive is technically invisible to the app • Your device may ask for a fingerprint or PIN — that is Google confirming it's you • The same file counts as the same book; the same title added from elsewhere is a separate book • Re-reading brings you back to the furthest position (by design) • Zoom level and spread settings stay per device ■ What we care about • No developer server. No ads. No usage tracking • One-time purchase. No subscription • Cloud access uses standard protocols (WebDAV) to minimise dependence on proprietary APIs ■ Requirements • Android 11 or later • Japanese, English, French, Korean, Simplified Chinese ■ Good to know • Solid RAR archives (readable only front to back) take longer when you jump pages; the app tells you • Password-protected and multi-volume RAR cannot be opened; the app explains why • SMB / FTP / streaming are not supported
