Countdown — Visual Timer

A countdown timer you can read from across the room. Countdown shows the time left as a ring that empties like a kitchen timer, so you can tell how long is left at a glance instead of stopping to read digits. The colour carries the urgency: calm while there is time, amber under a minute, red under ten seconds. WHY IT DOESN'T DRIFT Most timers count down by subtracting a second, once a second. That quietly loses time whenever the phone is busy, and stops altogether when Android suspends the app to save battery. Countdown never counts. It records the instant your timer will finish, then works out the time left from the phone's clock — every frame, from scratch. Leave it running in your pocket for an hour, let the screen sleep, or restart the phone halfway through: it comes back showing the right number, because the number was never being added up in the first place. The alert is scheduled through Android's alarm clock, the one kind of alarm exempt from battery saving, so it goes off on the second it is due rather than whenever the phone next wakes up.
