Full description
You don't choose where you're going. You choose a craving. Nowhere is navigation turned inside out. Instead of entering a destination, you pick a distance and a kind of place — nature, heritage, a viewpoint. The app draws somewhere at random, works out a route along good roads, and guides you all the way there without ever telling you where you are headed. The name of the place appears only once the engine is off. TWO WAYS TO SET OFF Mystery: there is a destination, drawn at random to match your craving. It stays hidden for the whole ride and is revealed on arrival, with a photo and its story. Wander: no destination at all. A one-way trip in a random direction. You ride, and you stop wherever you like. ROADS CHOSEN, NOT THE FASTEST ONES Two kinds of road: plain, or winding. The second one hunts for bends, prefers minor roads and keeps away from main arteries. Two more settings, one tap each: with or without tolls, with or without motorways. Travel times are calibrated against real mountain journeys, not a theoretical average. GUIDANCE YOU CAN READ AT 90 KM/H An almost empty screen: one manoeuvre at a time, very large, and nothing to touch. A map of the junction fades in two hundred metres before the turn, long enough to see which branch to take, then disappears. Instructions are spoken aloud, never naming a street — that would give the destination away. IT WORKS WITHOUT A SIGNAL Once the ride is downloaded, everything is computed on the phone: tracking, manoeuvres, the junction map. The network is only needed to set off, to reroute, and to reveal the place. It is built for the mountains, where coverage cannot be assumed. THE LOGBOOK Every place you reach joins your logbook, with its photo, distance and date. Finished rides too, track included. Statistics, a highest point, and twenty-five badges to unlock — by riding, never any other way. A place you have already visited will not be offered again. WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO Many places have to be earned on foot: a viewpoint, a waterfall, a mountain pass. The app warns you when that is the case and carries a full equipment guide, readable without a signal. Go prepared, and turn back if the path, the weather or the hour say so. The road always comes before what is on the screen. Adjust your mount while stopped. YOUR DATA Your track never leaves your phone. The server only receives a position when you set off, when you reroute, and when you arrive. No audience analytics, no trackers. You can erase everything, or delete your account, from the settings. Nowhere is free and supported by ads. No ads during guidance. The app interface is in French. Coverage: France. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors.

What's new

Now you know whether you will have to walk. Nowhere measures the real walk to the place: duration and climb computed on actual footpaths, instead of a straight-line distance. A viewpoint 200 m from the road can mean an hour of climbing — the app tells you before you set off. • The hint gives the kind of place and roughly how long the walk is • The logbook and the arrival screen show what the climb cost you • The hint now says what it reveals, and what it keeps secret
