SPUN Sampling is the field data-collection app used by researchers working with the Society for the Protection of Underground Networks (SPUN.earth) to record soil sampling locations around the world. Samples collected in the field are later analyzed to study mycorrhizal fungi — the vast underground networks that connect and sustain plant life. This app captures the metadata behind each sample: precise GPS coordinates, elevation, accuracy, sample type, soil depth, land use, and photos of the sampling site, all recorded at the moment of collection. Built for real fieldwork: - Works fully offline — record samples with no signal, and sync automatically once you're back online - Captures GPS coordinates with a live accuracy readout, plus manual coordinate entry as a fallback when signal is poor - Attach photos from the camera or your gallery to document each sample - Organize samples by project, using the project name assigned to your team by SPUN - View all your recorded samples on a map, and export them as CSV for further analysis - Import GeoPackage (.gpkg) layers to see existing survey boundaries alongside your samples This app is intended for researchers actively participating in SPUN's sampling campaigns.Scientists affilicated with SPUN.earth collect soil samples across the world. Those samples get analysed and studied for mycorizal fungi. This app helps record the metadata of those sampling locations.
