Full description
Rich Golf for the Dirt Poor. Dirt Poor is a curated ledger of the best public golf in the United States, seen through Scout Reports that measure architecture, conditions and experience against the price to play. Great golf does not have to be expensive. Expensive golf is not necessarily great. Dirt Poor exists to find the richest public golf experiences available to us all. THE LIST IS CURATED Dirt Poor is not a directory of every golf course in America. Every course has been selected because it offers something worth experiencing, from celebrated destinations to municipal courses and lesser-known public gems. The question is not whether a course belongs. The question is how it measures up. THE SCOUTING IS PUBLIC Dirt Poor puts that question in the hands of the golfers actually playing these courses. File a Scout Report based on what was in front of you: architecture, strategy, conditions, walkability, pace, availability, price and the experience as a whole. Add Field Notes. Record course character. Document what the numbers cannot. There is no vote for the best course and no box asking whether it was a “good value.” Play the course. Report what you experienced. The score generates from there. The more golfers who contribute, the truer the scores and rankings become. WHO GETS TO DEFINE THE BEST? The same famous courses appear near the top of public golf rankings year after year. Many deserve the acclaim. But public does not always mean accessible. A course can be open to everyone while its price puts it beyond the reach of most golfers. As the cost climbs, the public able to play it gets smaller. If we are talking about the best public golf, shouldn't price be part of the conversation? Dirt Poor thinks it should. THE DIRT POOR SCORE The Dirt Poor Score measures what a course delivers against what it asks from the golfer. Architecture matters. Conditions matter. The experience matters. So does price. Prestige does not earn extra credit. Reputation does not change the formula. An expensive destination course may offer extraordinary golf and earn a respectable score. But a municipal course delivering the same quality of architecture, strategy and experience at a fraction of the price is delivering something richer. That is the exceptional score Dirt Poor is looking for. This is not a list of the cheapest golf. It is not someone's subjective list of “best values.” Every Scout Report uses the same criteria and feeds the same scoring formula. Dirt Poor puts the courses on the same ledger and ranks them against each other based on our scores. RICH GOLF FOR EVERYONE Some great public courses are famous. Some are barely known outside their hometowns. Some cost hundreds of dollars. Some cost less than dinner. The richest golf might be a destination you've dreamed about playing. It might be the municipal course an hour down the road. That's what we're here to find. Find a course. Play it. Scout it. Add your experience to the ledger and invite your golf buddies to do the same. The more we scout, the better we can define the best public golf available to us all. This is not a search for rich golf. It is a definition of it.

What's new
