memex: Private Vault & Notes

memex is the private memory of your phone. Screenshots, photos, PDFs, pages, voice notes and passwords live together in one vault on your phone, and you find any of them again by a word you remember. There is no account and no server. Your vault is encrypted on this phone, and nothing in it is uploaded. KEEP ANYTHING • Share into memex from any app: a screenshot, a photo, a PDF, a link or a voice note • Write pages with headings, lists and to-dos, for a trip, a move or a recipe • Make sheets that total each column and count what is ticked • Photograph a receipt or a whiteboard, or record a thought before it goes • Keep passwords, IDs and recovery codes as secrets: masked everywhere, and checked by your phone's lock before they open FIND IT AGAIN • Search reads the words in your screenshots, photos and PDFs, right on the phone. Look for "warranty" and the receipt turns up • Optional on-device models add search by meaning and written transcripts of your recordings, in English, Hindi and more. They are downloads you choose, and they run on your phone PRIVATE BY DESIGN • No account, no sign-up, no server • Pictures, documents and recordings are encrypted before they are written, the database is encrypted too, and the keys are held in the Android Keystore • memex locks itself shortly after you leave, and opens with your fingerprint, face or screen lock • Screenshots of the app are blocked unless you choose to allow them • The How memex works screen says in plain words what is encrypted and what can reach the network One honest note: memex reads the words in pictures with Google's ML Kit, which runs on your phone. It never sends your pictures or their words anywhere, but it does send Google basic diagnostics about itself. WHEN YOU WANT SOMETHING TO LEAVE • Back up the whole vault to one sealed file you put wherever you like, under a passphrase only you know • Send one thing to one person as an encrypted envelope, opened by a code shown once • Share a picture, a document or a note to another app whenever you choose Your vault stays on your phone. If you lose the phone without a backup, nobody can recover it, not even us. That is the trade, and it is the point.
