Put your phone or tablet on the table and play shogi (Japanese chess) face to face. Mini shogi uses a small 5×5 board, so even a beginner can finish a game in a few minutes. ABOUT MINI SHOGI Mini shogi (5×5 shogi, also called Gogo shogi) is a compact variant of Japanese chess with six piece types: King, Rook, Bishop, Gold, Silver, and Pawn. Captured pieces can be dropped back on the board and pieces promote, just like standard shogi. Checkmate the opponent's king to win. A great first step into shogi, and a quick strategy game for shogi and chess fans. TWO PLAYERS, FACE TO FACE Place the device between you and it becomes the board. Play a classic board game with a friend or family member on one screen, no second device needed. PLAY VS AI Four levels: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Expert. Practice against Beginner, then test your tactics against Advanced and Expert. GAME REVIEW • Spot mistakes at a glance on the evaluation graph • Compare your move with the best move on the board • Try alternative moves and flip the board • Share or copy the game record (KIF) FEATURES • How to Play: a hands-on tutorial and a piece-movement guide • Undo the last move, and resume an unfinished game later • Japanese and English. Choose kanji or letter pieces (K, R, B, G, S, P) in Settings • Phones and tablets, with a wood-grain board and a dark Japanese-style design • Haptic feedback for captures, checks and game end HOW TO PLAY 1. Choose Two Players or Play vs AI from the menu 2. Put the device on the table and play face to face 3. After the game, open Review to step through the moves and the evaluation graph ABOUT THE AI A fast search engine reads several moves ahead. Advanced thinks for up to 3 seconds per move; Expert searches deeper for up to 8 seconds. OFFLINE Games, review and the tutorial all work offline, with no internet connection needed.
