Full description
Write in your language. Everyone reads in theirs. Zanmi translates every message as you send it, so a conversation works even when no two people in it speak the same language. Your mother writes in Haitian Creole. You read it in English. She reads your reply in Creole. Neither of you switches. How it works • Pick the language you read in. That's the whole setup. • Send a message the way you normally would. It gets translated on the way. • Tap "See original" under any message to read exactly what the sender typed. • Group chats work the same way: four people, four languages, one thread. 55 languages Including Haitian Creole, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Filipino, Arabic, Hindi, Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean and Chinese. Set your language once, and everything you receive shows up in it. Made for the way families talk We translate what people mean, not word for word. In Haitian Creole, "N ap boule, wi" means "We're doing great", not "We are burning, yes." Idioms come through as what they actually say, so the message that lands sounds like a person, not a dictionary. Your message still goes through If translation is briefly unavailable, we deliver the message anyway and the other person sees your original text. Nothing sits waiting on a translation. About translation and your privacy Worth reading before you sign up. The text of your messages is sent to a third-party AI translation service so that it can be translated. Zanmi is not end-to-end encrypted: our server has to read a message in order to translate it. We ask you to agree to this before you send your first message, and you can withdraw that consent any time in Profile. Withdrawing turns translation off and sends your words exactly as you wrote them. Our Privacy Policy spells out what we store and who we share it with. Staying in control Tap any contact's name to report or block them. You can delete your account, and everything in it, from Profile. Zanmi means friend in Haitian Creole. That's where the app started, and Creole is still the language we hold our translations to. It isn't the only one. Whatever language the people you love think in, that's the one they can read you in, and you'll read them in yours.
