Root Album

Your family's story, ready to revisit. Root Album brings your photos and videos together in a private family library. It requires a separately installed, self-hosted Root Album server and an account on that server. Server hosting is not included. FIND THE MOMENT YOU REMEMBER Browse your library by person, date, occasion or a place recorded in your photos. Add birthdays to find pictures from a particular age or stage of life. Look back at first birthdays, family holidays and the everyday moments in between. PUT NAMES TO FAMILIAR FACES Group and name people, add birthdays, and correct face assignments when needed. Face analysis runs on your selected server with locally installed models, without sending faces to a cloud recognition service. Automatic recognition needs the server's face models and may need your corrections. MAKE AN ALBUM THAT GROWS WITH YOUR FAMILY Save a search as an album and new matching photos appear as you add them. Choose from eight designs, including Linen, Botanical, Birthday, Christmas and Easter. Read your collection as a book with page turns, or browse its photo grid. Reduce similar shots within an album while keeping the full library. FROM SCREEN TO KEEPSAKE Export a themed album as a PDF for printing, download a photo or video in its original form, or save an album's originals as a ZIP. Editing names, dates and albums leaves your original files unchanged. YOUR LIBRARY, ON YOUR SERVER Family members use separate passkey logins to the same household library. Photos, videos and face processing stay on the Root Album server you choose. The app has no built-in advertising or analytics. Location search uses an offline overview map and existing photo coordinates; it does not request your current location. BRING YOUR PHONE'S MEMORIES HOME Optionally enable library backup to copy accessible photos and videos to your server. Choose Wi-Fi-only transfers and check progress in the app. Backup keeps the originals on your phone. Android controls background timing, and permissions and network access affect what can be copied. MAKE IT FEEL LIKE HOME Choose English or German and a light or dark appearance. Language and appearance are saved on your device. BEFORE YOU START Ask your household's server operator for access, or set up your own Root Album server. Your device needs a network connection to that server at a reachable HTTPS address. Available features depend on the installed client and server versions; face recognition also requires the local models. Original downloads and exports have size limits. Album ZIP exports do not include paired Live Photo motion resources.
