Full description
Textbooks teach you to order coffee politely. Then you watch anime, read manga, or talk to an actual Japanese person, and nothing sounds like the textbook. YabaiLingo teaches real Japanese: casual speech, slang, contractions, rough pronouns, and the register switching that textbooks pretend doesn't exist. The definitions say so when a word is rude, crude, or slangy, so you know when you can use it. SPACED REPETITION FLASHCARDS Built on FSRS, the modern scheduling algorithm. Every word comes with a real example sentence and a word-by-word breakdown. Cards drill recognition, recall, and listening, so you can read a word, produce it, and understand it by ear. READING MODE Paste any Japanese text: a tweet, a manga line, a news article. Every word becomes tappable, color-coded by whether you already know it, and you can see what percentage of the text you understand. Tap an unknown word for its meaning and add it to your deck with its sentence attached. This is sentence mining, built into the app. SAY IT: SPEAKING PRACTICE See the English and say the Japanese out loud. Say It picks the words you struggle with most, so your speaking practice goes where you need it. STORIES Voiced, chat-style stories and illustrated picture stories, written in natural casual Japanese. Tap any word for its meaning, then test your comprehension with a quiz at the end. SCENARIO LESSONS Short lessons built around real situations, with listening, speaking, and sentence-building practice. KANA, RADICALS & KANJI Kana practice, a radical system, and kanji building games for when you want to go deeper. ALSO • Natural-sounding Japanese voice audio • Furigana you can switch on or off • Review heatmap and progress stats • Word definitions from JMdict (EDRDG, CC BY-SA 4.0) Stop learning Japanese nobody speaks. Learn the Japanese people actually use.

What's new

• New speaking practice mode • New picture stories and quiz questions • Smoother flashcard reviews • Better microphone reliability • Bug fixes and improvements
