HWC Management System

The HWC Management System is a mobile application developed by WWF India to support technology-enabled management of the human–wildlife conflict. The application is designed to assist the communities living in forest fringe areas by reporting wildlife presence & conflict incidences and help the Forest Department through timely reporting, early warnings, and systematic documentation of human–wildlife conflict (HWC) incidents. The application functions as an Early Warning and Monitoring Tool, allowing trained users to generate alerts related to wildlife presence near human habitations and outside Protected Areas. It also supports the Government’s ex-gratia and compensation mechanisms by facilitating transparent, efficient, and well-documented reporting of HWC incidents. This application is not intended for public use. Access is restricted to trained users with pre-configured login credentials. Key Features: Offline Functionality: Operates in remote forest fringe areas with limited or no internet connectivity. Secure Data Management: Ensures data encryption and secure storage of sensitive information. Species Records: Enables recording of wildlife presence outside Protected Areas and within wildlife corridors. Human–Wildlife Conflict Incident Reporting: Allows documentation of HWC incidents, including human injury or death, livestock loss, crop damage, and property damage. SMS Notifications: Facilitates real-time alerts to forest officials regarding wildlife sightings near villages and human settlements. Record Access and Editing: Users can review and edit submitted records within a stipulated time period through the application. The HWC Management System aims to strengthen field-level response, improve coordination between stakeholders, and enhance transparency in human–wildlife conflict management efforts.
