Full description
A car GPS does not know you are 13 feet 6 inches tall. CDL Navigator does, and that is why it sends you a different way. YOUR MEASUREMENTS DECIDE THE ROUTE You enter height, width, length, gross weight, axle count and, if you carry it, the hazmat class and tunnel category. Every route uses those numbers. That includes kingpin-to-rear-axle (KPRA), which California posts routes by and fines for, and which almost no other app asks about. Nine vehicle types, each with ITS own rules: tractor-trailer, straight truck, school bus, motorcoach, RV, car hauler, tanker, flatbed and delivery van. A school bus is routed under bus law, not truck law — a legal difference, not a detail. IF IT ONLY JUST FITS, YOU DO NOT GO Measurements are rounded UP, and three inches of clearance are added to height and width. Your vehicle is declared taller and wider than it is, on purpose. The reason: the clearance posted on a bridge was measured the day the sign went up, and every layer of asphalt since has lowered the real clearance without anyone changing the number. Three inches cost about a quarter mile of detour. Six inches can double whole routes. And if no path exists that respects all your measurements, the app does NOT just show you the route. It stops you, names the measurement being broken, and makes you acknowledge it before you drive. WHAT YOU SEE WHILE DRIVING • The speed limit for the road you are on, drawn like the real sign, changing as you move from street to street. When it is not known, nothing is shown — no invented number. You read the sign instead. • Your current speed right below it, so the comparison takes one glance. • Traffic painted on your route in amber, orange or red. Sections with no data are NOT painted green, because "I don't know" and "it's clear" are not the same thing. • A heads-up two miles before you cross into another state, where truck speed limits, chain laws and weight permits change. • Weigh stations: a warning at 50 miles so you can plan, and a second at 30 once you are rolling. The app says plainly that it CANNOT know whether a station is open, and that you should assume it is. • The map goes light and dark with the real sunset where you are, not by the clock. Notices last three seconds and clear themselves so they never sit on top of the road ahead — but they are kept in the bell so you can read them parked. OFFICIAL SOURCES AND INDEPENDENCE DISCLAIMER CDL Navigator is independent. It is NOT an official government app and has no affiliation with or endorsement from the U.S. government or a public agency. Government information comes from these original sources: • Bridges — FHWA: https://www.fhwa.dot.gov/bridge/nbi.cfm • Weather — NWS: https://www.weather.gov/ • Diesel — EIA: https://www.eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/ • Diesel cross-check — USDA: https://agtransport.usda.gov/ • Border waits — CBP: https://bwt.cbp.gov/ • Work zones — USDOT: https://data.transportation.gov/ • VIN data — NHTSA: https://vpic.nhtsa.dot.gov/ Routes/maps: HERE. Backup: our Cloudflare-hosted Protomaps/OpenStreetMap copy, never OSM's public tile server. EIGHT LANGUAGES English, Spanish, French, Haitian Creole, Punjabi, Hindi, Portuguese and Chinese. Not just the interface — the spoken directions too. PRIVACY No account and no sign-up. Vehicle profiles, trips and saved places stay on your phone. The app is free with optional purchases and may show ads. Location is used with the screen off while you navigate — otherwise the voice guidance would cut out the moment you locked the phone. A permanent notification always shows it, and it ends when you close the route. WHAT THIS APP IS NOT It does not calculate routes offline. That needs a separate contract with the map provider, and we would rather say so than have you find out in the middle of nowhere. Map tiles you already passed are cached. Mile markers are Texas only for now. Driving is still yours. Posted signs beat anything on any screen.

What's new

The map no longer resets: it keeps its position, orientation, and active route when you open Settings, Trip, Places, or Vehicle, or minimize the app. The Back gesture returns to the map without opening the menu. Road signs and your destination stay put as the map rotates, and the camera zooms in at turns and on arrival. New option to show which way nearby streets run.
