Read this text! turns any text into speech on your Android phone. Type it, paste it, share it from another app, or select it anywhere and pick "Read aloud" from the selection menu. The app reads it in the language and voice your device speaks. Playback behaves like a podcast player. In the app you get a draggable seek bar with elapsed and total time, 10 second jumps, and play, pause and stop. A media notification carries play, pause and the 10 second jumps to the notification shade and the lock screen, and playback keeps going when you leave the app, so you can listen while you cook, drive, walk, or rest your eyes. Long documents are handled properly. Audio starts in a second or two instead of waiting for the whole text, very long text is split into parts you can move between, and if you stop halfway the app remembers your position and offers to resume. Voices come from the text-to-speech engines installed on your phone. If your device default engine only offers a single language, switch to another installed engine and the full language and voice list appears. Paste a paragraph in another language and the app detects it and suggests the switch, which you accept or dismiss. Nothing is changed behind your back.
