OmoSafe

OmoSafe is one family safety app for parents and children. Install it on your phone and on your child's phone, choose Parent / Guardian or Child device, and link them with a one-time code. OmoSafe runs openly on your child's phone, and your child can see exactly what you can see. How OmoSafe uses Android's VPN feature (VpnService) OmoSafe's web filter uses Android's VpnService to run a local filter on the child's phone. It is part of OmoSafe's parental controls and is switched on only by a parent, with the family PIN, after an in-app notice. The filter checks only the names of websites (DNS lookups) against the family's rules, such as blocked sites, blocked keywords and SafeSearch. It never reads page content, messages or anything typed, and it does not send the phone's internet traffic to a VPN server. Website name lookups go to Cloudflare's family-safe DNS over an encrypted connection (DNS over TLS); on networks that block that connection they fall back to standard DNS so filtering keeps working. When a site is blocked because of a parent's keyword, its name and the time are sent to the parent's OmoSafe account. On a child's phone it runs openly, with its own icon and an ongoing notification, and the child can see what their parent can see. It shares the phone's location with the family (including in the background, for the family map, safe zone alerts and SOS), app usage for screen time limits, and websites blocked by the family's rules. It never reads messages, calls or anything typed, and it must not be used to monitor another adult. PERMISSIONS ON THE CHILD'S PHONE Location (including background), notifications, usage access, display over other apps, battery optimization exemption, device admin (to stop removal without the family PIN) and the camera (only to scan the linking QR code).
